GEO: Visibility in AI Search

People looking for a solution also ask ChatGPT, Google or Perplexity. Can these systems understand what your business offers and why it matches the question?

With Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Websitemaster makes your content clearer, accessible and easier to use as a source. You receive an individual strategy and technical implementation for your existing website, with the aim of reaching relevant prospects.

  • Clear content for customers and AI search
  • Targeted access to public content
  • Measurable evidence instead of guesswork
Understanding GEO

What is Generative Engine Optimization?

GEO means improving your online presence for search and answer systems powered by generative AI. These systems can combine information from multiple sources and link to websites. GEO aims to help them understand your offering and discover useful source material. This involves clear service descriptions, verifiable claims, current information and a technically accessible website.

Traditional SEO improves discovery in search engines. GEO complements that work with a focus on AI-generated answers. They share foundations: useful content, sound indexing, internal links and consistent business information. GEO therefore does not replace SEO. Each platform decides which sources it actually cites.

Your deliverables

What you get from Websitemaster

We agree the scope around your website, audience and infrastructure. We combine the following elements where they serve your project.

Content for AI search

We review your key service pages and the questions your customers ask. We develop useful answers, precise descriptions and supporting evidence. We improve internal links, business information and appropriate structured data so people and search systems can understand your offering more easily.

Automatic llms.txt publishing

On request, we set up an automatically updated llms.txt: a compact guide to selected public content for systems that use this format. Once integrated, it is maintained from your content source. It is an optional addition; Google does not require it for traditional search or AI answers.

Clean Markdown feeds

We can provide approved pages as clean Markdown, without navigation or decorative elements, including a source link and current content. This simplifies processing for connected AI systems. The versions stay consistent with your website; private content is not published.

Access controls for each AI bot

We distinguish search crawlers, training crawlers and user-initiated requests and define appropriate rules for each provider. Depending on your infrastructure, we implement robots.txt rules and server or firewall controls. This allows targeted search access and restrictions on other traffic where provider support and technical detection permit it.

Page-by-page exclusions

You decide which public pages appear in llms.txt and Markdown outputs. We also review appropriate crawling and indexing rules for individual pages. Confidential content belongs behind access controls: exclusion from a feed or a robots.txt rule does not protect publicly accessible data.

AI crawler visit reporting

We set up ongoing reporting on identified AI crawlers using available server or CDN logs. You can see visited URLs, timestamps and response codes; reporting frequency and detail depend on your infrastructure. A bot visit confirms access, but does not establish a mention or recommendation in an AI answer.

How we work

From assessment to implementation

01

Assess your starting point

We examine relevant pages, search queries, indexing and access rules. You receive an assessment with specific obstacles and opportunities.

02

Agree on priorities

Together we select audiences, services and pages. You receive a prioritised action plan and an individual proposal with a clearly defined scope.

03

Improve content and technology

We revise the agreed content, implement technical changes and check the results. You receive the implementation and clear documentation of the settings.

04

Monitor the results

We compare agreed metrics with the starting point and identify next steps. Ongoing support and reporting can be agreed separately if needed.

For your business model

GEO for websites, shops and platforms

Small businesses & services

Explain your services, areas of work and experience so prospects can understand your offering. We connect answers to real customer questions with a clear path to making an enquiry.

Online stores

We structure product information, categories and buying advice. Current, consistent product and availability information helps search systems and customers find their way.

Publishers & editorial teams

We support clear sourcing, authorship and updates. Together we decide which content should be accessible and how changes should be reflected in published outputs.

Agencies & multiple websites

We plan reusable rules, specific exceptions and clear reporting for your client projects. Each website retains its own permissions and responsibilities.

Consulting and technical implementation together

Websitemaster combines content work with experience in web development and Symfony. We assess your existing website, regardless of its CMS. Whether you use WordPress, an online shop or a custom application, we recommend an integration that fits your goals and system. Changing platforms is not a prerequisite for GEO.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before you start

GEO and SEO share many foundations. If pages are inaccessible, cannot be indexed or contain unclear content, we start there. We then assess which additional measures make sense for AI search and connected AI systems. This lets you invest in a shared foundation.

No. No service provider can guarantee a specific placement or mention. Platforms select their own sources, and answers vary by question, time and context. We deliver verifiable improvements to content and technology and track progress using agreed metrics.

No. llms.txt is an optional format for systems that support it. Google does not use it as a requirement or ranking signal for its search and AI features. Useful content, accessible pages and sound SEO foundations take priority. We use llms.txt and Markdown where there is a specific benefit.

Content improvements can be made on many websites. Automated outputs, bot rules and monitoring depend on the CMS, hosting and available interfaces. We check these prerequisites before preparing a proposal and explain any limitations.

Providers with separate crawlers can be given different rules, for example GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot. robots.txt relies on each bot respecting the rules. Additional technical blocking depends on reliable bot identification and your infrastructure. It does not retroactively remove previously stored data.

Depending on available data, we review indexing, identified crawler visits, attributable referrals from AI services and qualified enquiries. Selected test questions can provide additional indications of mentions, but are not comprehensive market monitoring. Bot traffic alone is not business success; not every AI interaction can be attributed reliably.

There are no fixed packages or list prices. The work depends on the size of your website, content quality, technical options and desired support. After an initial conversation, you receive an individual proposal with deliverables and priorities. Ongoing support can be agreed separately if needed.

For the initial conversation, your website address, main services and target audience are enough. For the assessment, we then discuss appropriate access, such as Search Console, website analytics or server logs. Do not send passwords through the contact form.
